Our MQL Sustainable Tourism Services inspection trip to famous Halong bay, Northern Vietnam, showing a huge issue of floating waste and polluted areas all over.


The tourism impact, the local inhabitants and floating villages, the no care by several cruise companies and little law enforcement by authorities, transformed the idilic location into the images observed below.

Recommendations to local and national authorities were shown on several occassions:

✅ Sustainable practices for all cruises
✅ Strict penalties and law enforcement
✅ Daily barges collecting actual waste and recycling material
✅ All private sector parties involvement & action aligned to public sector

Topic is the main concern for many international & domestic visitors interviewed, hence the no-return customers to the bay. Several concerned cruise companies are acting, others are ignoring.
