Tourism statistics in Vietnam need an upgrade

Tourism data figures in Vietnam had been neglected for many years.


The importance of monitoring correctly international arrivals as well as domestic travellers is an important tool for many countries supporting strategic marketing campaigns among many other promotional actions where required.

Discussing with Vietnam-based tourism experts on the topic, agree on many actual statistics failure recounts: residents counted as tourists (or not, depending on location) can be a sample. Considering a business trip to any Vietnamese location is added (or not) to “unreal statistics”…

Now Ho Chi Minh City is aligning efforts to monitor closely such numbers for key international visitor markets, let’s see how results and credibility are shown next quarters.

Tourism figures in Southeast Asia towards end of 2024

Southeast Asian countries pushing tourism figures towards end of 2024, achieving and surpasing targets are key for most of them. ✅ Thailand received 29.08 million foreign tourists by October (by arrivals order of Chinese, Malaysians, Indians, South Koreans and Russians). Tourism tax is coming...

A tourist arrival tax of 9 usd will be applied in neighbouring Thailand from 2025 mostly for air travellers which account 70% of total. Such moves moves after other Southeast Asian locations like Bali started charging 10 usd last year, or South Korea also charging arrivals too, some European destinations started years ago.
